Has South Africa made progress in creating a more tolerant society?

As we mark reconciliation day it seems fitting to ask ourselves if we have made progress in creating a more tolerant society? South Africa created the National Plan to Combat Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance in 2019. What inroads have we since then? To help me unpack this I am joined by Social analyst and political commentator Tessa Dooms, Nelson Mandela University Associate professor at the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy, Professor Christi van der Westhuizen, National Director at Lawyers for Human Rights Wayne Ncube; Anti-Apartheid activist Trevor Ngwane; Social Activist Brian Mhlanga; and Lwazi Mzobe from uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association.

COSATU - Talks Gender Equality

It was on the second day of the 13th COSATU conference. Which was held at the Gallager conference in Johannesburg. On top of the agenda was the issue and notion of gender equality. The conversation was on saying NO to unfair treatment and No to discrimination. The notion of women empowerment was also discussed at this conference. Also, what stood out for me at this conference was the issue for land redistribution which the congress mentioned as a critical point and an issue that needs to be resolved.

Workplace bullying is a sensitive topic that people don’t really speak about because of fear of retaliation. For more on this #eNCA speaks to leadership coach, Brian Mhlanga.
